Nothing starts your day worse than waking up to a CNN News crew on your front porch. That is what happened with Cover Oregon (Oregon’s failed HIX implementation). Now, with multiple lawsuits filed, only time will tell who the real losers are. One thing is for sure—there will be no winners. This presentation describes the conditions surrounding seven key decision points in the Cover Oregon project and asks the audience the question, “What would you do?” The audience participates in a facilitated roundtable fashion, discussing the possible actions and their merits.
Areas discussed include:
- The controls and actions needed for success.
- Initial scoping decisions.
- Mid-project Change Order costing.
- Mid-project Change Order deliverables.
- System Integrator selection.
- Project Audit reporting.
- Internal process and procedure conflicts.
In this presentation, the project will be replayed and the audience will be given between five and ten minutes to discuss each point and come to a conclusion on what they would have done differently to change the outcome of the project. This novel format provides valuable insight by hearing dozens of people’s views on how to approach each decision, engaging everyone in the debate, and knowing what fatal decisions contributed to this $250 million failure.
